Welcome to Red Creek Ranch.
On the surface, it’s a place of hard work, long days under the sun, cattle in the pastures, and the kind of discipline that keeps the fences mended and the herds where they belong. But Red Creek is known for more than just beef — it’s famous in town for its watermelons, sweet and red all the way through. And just like those melons, nobody’s surprised that under a ranch hand’s faded jeans, his ass is usually just as red.
The boys joke among themselves — and sometimes whisper it in town — that “discipline makes the ranch run smooth.” Around the bunkhouse it’s said with a grin that “at Red Creek, we keep the boys in line,” and nobody argues, not with welts to prove it. They’ll laugh too that “work hard, take your licks, sleep easy,” because everyone knows a sore ass means a job done right. And if you ever ask why it’s called Red Creek, one of the boys will smirk and mutter, “The creek runs red — and so do our asses.”
Red Creek Ranch gave them both a home and a crucible. Under the hard hand of Mr. Harlan and the gentle kindness of his wife, they learned that life here is as much about discipline as it is about sweat, labor, and loyalty. The ranch hands joke that nobody at Red Creek stays long without learning to take a sore ass along with a hard day’s work — and Gene and Joe were quick studies.
So welcome to Red Creek Ranch. Settle in, click on the stories below, and get to know our two country boys — how much they can take, and how much they love giving it right back.
